About Me

I always loved to write, but became fascinated with neuroscience as an undergraduate biology major at Wesleyan University. I went on to earn a PhD in Neuroscience from Stanford University. Along the way, I did research on neural development—how the brain and nervous system forms and grows—in embryonic mice and adult birds and fish.

While teaching as a graduate student, I discovered my passion for helping people understand science. After earning my PhD, I taught neurobiology courses at Stanford, Cal State East Bay, and UC Berkeley Extension. I eventually became the student services coordinator for the Biology Scholars Program at UC Berkeley, where I worked to remove barriers for underrepresented students in biology.

In 2014, I decided to combine my scientific expertise with my love of writing to make science more accessible. I started my science communications business by developing biology education content for various clients. I co-authored an open access human biology textbook and developed animations for a video textbook, among other projects.

Later, I began working with multiple clients at UC Berkeley: the Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute, the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology, and the Department of Integrative Biology. I write articles that highlight my clients’ scientists, alumni, research, and news for their websites and newsletters. I have also written and edited reports, website content, and announcements.

I am interested in science communication projects related to biology, neuroscience, the process of science, science careers, and equity in science. You can visit my LinkedIn to learn more about my experience and my portfolio to see samples of my work. Please get in touch if you would like to talk!
