Headshot of Rachel Henderson

I’m a freelance science writer with over 11 years of experience writing about biology, neuroscience, and the people and institutions behind the science.

I have primarily worked with clients at UC Berkeley (including the Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute and the departments of Neuroscience, Molecular & Cell Biology, and Integrative Biology), writing articles and other content that highlight their scientists, alumni, research, news, and missions. I also have experience writing middle school through college level biology educational materials.

I have a PhD in neuroscience and a BA in biology, which gives me a deep understanding of science and how it is done. I enjoy combining my writing skills and scientific expertise to translate scientific research and concepts into clear, engaging, and accurate stories for all audiences. I also love writing profiles of scientists and demystifying science career pathways and the scientific process.

Please visit my portfolio to see samples of my work, which includes research news releases, university news and features, scientist profiles, newsletters, and textbooks. I am interested in writing and editing projects related to biology, neuroscience, and the scientific endeavor as a whole. Please contact me if you would like to discuss how we might work together!
